Thanks again for letting us know about this. I loaded up his save and did note that the "bookcase(?)" that normally blocks the stairs to the Nucleoplastic Cave was gone. 'Oh, my God!' I thought. 'Could we have caused this error?' I reloaded the rom using one of my own srm saves (from the exact same point in the game), and low-and-behold, the "bookcase" was in place.
I even went as far as to load up a japanese rom using his srm; however, the problem persisted. I left Nigel and re-entered, hoping to clear anything that may have been left in memory, but the access point to the cave was still opened.
I have no idea what happened in his playthrough that caused the way down to the Nucleoplastic Cave to be opened... This should not have occurred, and if anyone else out there gets to this point, you should NOT GO DOWN THERE! Well... You can down, but DO NOT place your seals on the pedestals. You will get stuck and have to restart.
