In Reply to: Re: Feda Spot Translation Clarification Request (fairly long) - Final part of Area (Chapter 1) posted by satsu on November 02, 2008 at 14:01:00:

Satsu's work completes the picture for Chapter 1 and also tells me where the game is going. Along with this and other research, I have learned this about Feda.

The "emblems" (of Feda) are more than mere titles that can change constantly through the game. The emblem you wear any given moment will affect who joins you, fights for you, and stays with you.

Scenarios will vary and even game endings will change with different emblems. Here they are:

Fedayeen goddess of justice (one ending)
Valkyrie maiden of heaven (same ending as Griffon and Blade eagle)
Griffon sign of proud and prosperity (same ending as Valkyrie and Blade eagle)
Blade Eagle the comrade of lawful fighters (same ending as Valkyrie and Griffon)
Viper the one who trusts nobody and stays neutral (same ending as Phantom and Balrog)
Phantom reaper and bringer of death (same ending as Viper and Balrog)
Balrog servant of the devil (same ending as Phantom and Viper)
Hellhound keeper at Gehennas gate (same ending as Genocide)
Genocide god of chaos and destruction (same ending as Hellhound)

The top group carry "Law" emblems.
The middle group is "Neutral".
The bottom pair are "Chaos".

Recruitable characters are divided into these three categories. Law and chaos characters will not fight side-by-side on your team, but neutral chars will fight alongside anyone. Therefore, as your hero's emblem changes, you will retain/recruit only neutral characters and those that match your general category. Once a character leaves you because of a changing emblem, you will probably lose that fighter's services permanently.

This is an over simplification, but the big difference between Shining Force and Feda is that you don't always need to slay all of the enemies on the screen. In fact, in Feda, if you kill enemies beyond the mission requirements, and you wish to retain a neutral or law emblem, you may slide to Hellhound or Genecide emblems, and lose all of your law teammates.

This is why the script is so confusing and repetitious. You have different endings, people leaving your party, multiple scenarios based on your fighting decisions, delaying tactics, and the like. So, it may be impossible to recruit every single character in the game, in one play-through.

Should be interesting, guys, sorting out the rest of this game!

> > What we're looking for here are attitudes and tones. How does the party feel about the master priest? How does the priest feel about the party? The temple is sealed against Empire strikes, so everyone could remain there and stay safe. But the priest, obviously, has his own agenda. So, does the party shift its posture away from selfish motives and more toward altruism, or does the priest inveigle them into the cause? What is REALLY going down in the master priest's chamber? It's important to the total story evolution, to know.
